It has been an ambition for many years to prove to ourselves that we do actually live on an island and it is not just hearsay.  To this effect we decided that before we snuffed it we would carry out an expedition to confirm it.  On our summer cruise in 2006 we chose to plan our journey for 2008.  The finances were an obvious concern considering the amount of fuel that we would burn on this trip.  So a fund was set up when each of the three crew members would put in £10 per week, which would give us £3000 to cover those costs......little did we know! In hindsight, with the current escalating cost of fuel, we should have made it £20!

However, there will always be plenty of money left for the beer!  We have since realised that the beer is more important than the fuel so the journey will end when the beer money runs out.

The course is planned to turn right at the Tyne Piers and to keep going until we turn right to enter them again.  As this is restricted to a three week cruise, we anticipate having to cut short the journey by returning via the Forth Clyde Canal.  This would give us a journey of approximately 1200 miles.

Stage 2 of the journey taking in the whole of Scotland would be for a future date.  This would then prove to ourselves that we do live on an island.

As the trip unfolds, we will send in photographs and a little story of our stop-overs.

An eventful, but successful trip happened.  On the right, an animated version of how the trip went.
